Celebration 2024: The Bluff Park Art Association Showcases Black and Women Artists

HOOVER, AL – We are pleased to announce Celebration 2024: The Bluff Park Art Association Showcases Black and Women Artists  - a new exhibit from the BPAA Permanent Collection.

The gallery for the exhibit will be located at the Bluff Park Shopping Center, suite 106, 2142 Tyler Rd, and will be open to the public from Thursday to Saturday, February 1 to March 23. The exhibit will feature 23 pieces from Black and women artists. Media includes paintings, prints, weavings, ceramics, sculpture, collage, and jewelry. Eight of the pieces are three-dimensional and 15 are two-dimensional. 

“Most pieces on display are Best In Show - purchase award winners from the Bluff Park Art Show over the years,” said James Phillips, Bluff Park Art Association Permanent Collection Co-Chair. “We also have pieces that were acquisitions and bequeathed.” 

“This exhibit is a tribute honoring Black and women artists in our collection,” Said Liz Hicks, Bluff Park Art Association Permanent Collection Co-Chair. “Although our annual Bluff Park Art Show has become well known after 60 years, many people are unaware that the Association owns and maintains a permanent art collection of purchase award winners from the art show and other acquisitions. It is important to us that people get to see the collection through events like this each year.” 

The exhibit will open with a reception on February 1 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Although tickets are free, it is recommended to reserve a spot through Ticket Tailor. Additionally, the art association will feature two guest speakers during Celebration 2024: Larry Allen on February 29 and Debra Riffe, judge of the 2023 Bluff Park Art Show, on March 14. The speakers will begin at 7 pm and admission will be $10 through Ticket Tailor.

A member of the Bluff Park Art Association will be on hand each day with information about each piece displayed. Private group tours and field trips can also be arranged through the Permanent Collection Committee by email bpaacollection@gmail.com.
